The Call-In is a central feature of the village and is directly adjacent to the lovely village pond, near to the village green. This flint stone and brick building offers a wide variety of clubs and activities. It is run by the AVA (Ashill Village Aid) a charity set up in 1978.
The AVA is an Ashill based Charitable Organisation that aims to help residents of Ashill through a network of volunteers & contacts
The building is one of the more historic features of the village. Inside the meeting room is served by a wide access unisex toilet, a new kitchen was installed in 2023 and a series of dining tables and chairs and can be easily transformed for meetings and the various clubs that use it. New for 2024 a integrated TV/IT hub has been installed to allow the Committee and the Archive Club to present things of interest to the audience, rather than by film and projector.
The Call In now operates as a Warm Spot for those in need and also has started cooking Full English Breakfasts on Saturday mornings.
It is also the location of one of the village’s 3 Defibrillators.
It also offers tea and coffee on the days it is open and during the year frequently runs events and exhibitions. It also lends books and jigsaws to villagers from a collection changed monthly. It is a favourite of the many local walking groups and it is also the home of the Village Archive Group, which meets each Monday to research and record the history of Ashill. The extensive archive holds thousands of documents and photographs of Ashill and new members are welcome.
